Mutt Williams and the Raiders of the Last Franchise

George Lucas is quoted as saying:

“‘I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this,’ he said. ‘But I have an idea to make Shia [LeBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.’”

I can’t believe they think this is a good idea. I love Shia LaBeouf, he was the best thing in Transformers, but Shia is not Indy, and a sequel without Indiana Jones in the lead role is not an Indiana Jones movie. End. Of. Story. I mean what would they even call it?

  1. I completely agree. There were lots of hints in the movie that Shia LaBeouf might be the ‘next’ Indiana Jones e.g. in the last scene Indy’s hat lands at his son’s feet. I think it’s a really bad idea. Indiana Jone’s is not James Bond, and they can’t just keep switching actor’s. It wouldn’t work.

  2. Think about! Harrison Ford become an old age. He was very young and strong man since 1981. I feel very bittersweet because he was 65 year old now. I am glad Shia LaBeouf will become Indy Jones (Mutt Jones) in future.

  3. I feel that either way could be disasterous. Speilburg would have to toe the line if he were to do another Indiana Jones, nomatter who the actor was.

He’s done four great films, if I were him, I’d leave it at that.

If he were to make another one, I’d move onto Mutt, but still give Indy a major role, like that of his own father in Last Crusade. He’d also have to do something very different but not too outer limits. However, there’s not much else he *could* do nowadays that hasn’t been done before. He’s already done egypt and south america and aliens and holy artifacts. What would be left would be the orient, BUT with the new Mummy film coming out, it’s not likely that he could pull it off without looking like he ripped it off. Maybe something in Rome or Greece? Or perhaps the Middle East? Both have been vaguely featured in his other movies, but either is where the films are actually based.

Still, I don’t see a future film being too much of a success.

  4. Based on the fourth movie, I’d sooner gouge my own eyes out than witness an Indy-lite Indy movie.
