F.Y.I.
Just so you know.
What is Hollywood like?
Boring. It’s true — it’s not all glitz and glamour. It’s about 1% show and 99% business. It’s working long hours, getting little sleep, commuting in heavy traffic and paying high rent.
Don’t expect to get rich quick, or earn a lot, just because your bosses are millionaires. Many, if not all, of those at the bottom of the food chain breaking in (which is necessary and can take years) work ridiculously long hours for terrible pay only to return home late in the evenings to work on their own passion projects. They say New York is a rat race, but the real rat race is in LA, with the added charm of LA’s rat race taking place on a catwalk. How you look and are perceived matters just as much as how talented you are. The burnout rate is understandably quite high, and employers can take advantage of you. Starting work at 8AM and finishing at 9PM (or later) is not uncommon, and don’t expect gratitude.
Ugly stars look way better in person, while those considered beautiful look oddly unattractive. Geena Davis looks gorgeous in real life, while on screen she looks like a terminator. Every actor weighs about 100lbs, especially the men. (They’re not buff at all, they’re just skinny which makes them look buff!) Oh, and everyone drives drunk! It’s insane.
Actually, come to think of it, it’s not very normal at all. Good thing then, it’s also sunny, exciting, fun and fascinating, with lots of cool parties and things to do.
What have you written?
Lots of stuff. I’ve had a handful of options on past work but I am still hustling for my big break. Don’t look at me like that.
What are you working on right now?
Aside from KRAP, I am writing a big popcorn movie with my writing partner-in-crime Greg Ernstrom. I’m also outlining two other comedy scripts I intend to write in the next few months.
Can you read my script?
No. Can you read mine?
What are The Poster Quote Reviews?
The Poster Quote Reviews are short, snappy recommendations of movies I have seen recently and enjoyed. They are written without synopsis and spoiler-free. Their purpose is to cut right to the chase and sum up a would-be review in a few lines, and thus I only do them for films I like.
If you have any other questions you think should be added here, please let me know.
